Teenagers Sex and Sexuality

Sexual activity during adolescence may imply in several risks for the teenager. Given the fact, it's easy at this period of to engage in dangerous sex behavior. It is whether by lack of proper information or experience, leading the teenager to take wrong and impulsive decisions concerning sex. At that age, females in general end up by engaging in sexual activity looking for love or romantic feelings, while boys tend to search only for sex gratification and/or acceptance inside their group of friends.

There are several studies on the sex life of teenagers that show some of the factors that lead teenagers to engage in risky sexual activity. Here the most common reasons:

  • Substance abuse - alcohol and drugs are major factors contributing to risky sexual activity during adolescence also leading to dangerous sex behavior.
  • Early development - Some teens mature physically in a precocious age, what leads them to hang out with older friends. Their attitudes may influence the teenager about engaging into sexual activity.
  • Single parent home - kids who live in single parent homes tend to engage in sexual activity earlier, probably due to a less monitoring that is more common when both parents live together.
  • Friends influence - kids that realize that the majority of their friends and peers are already heaving sex as a regular basis tend to engage into sexual activity to feel included in the group.

Consequences in the range of early sexual activity include early parenting and unwanted pregnancies, diseases transmitted through sex and sex-linked dysfunctions, particularly for girls. Parents may help the transition through adolescence by clarifying questions regarding sex being communicative thus understanding.
